  • Jaguars Mock Draft Pulse

Something I want to do once a week is to check out how Mock Drafts are evaluating the Jaguars and what kind of changes people think. As Drafts get updated more often, I’ll add more to get a larger sample size as well. In addition, several major draft sites haven’t updated their Mocks since Andrew Luck decided to stay at Stanford, throwing things out of wack. So that means we’ll have an inherently smaller sample to go off of this week.

    Brandon Harris, CB, Miami: NEPatriotsDraft

JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin:New NFL Draft,

Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa: NFL Draft Gazette,

Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri: Hogs Draft

Cameron Hayward, DE, Ohio St: Your NFL Draft

Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina: Draft Debacled

Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue: Draft Debacled

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama: NFL Mock Draft

Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh: Mocking The Draft, Walter Football

Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri: New Sport Draft

Jack Locker, QB, Washington: NFL Draft Blitz

So, out of this admittedly small sample size, what are people saying? Clearly most mocks think the Jaguars will be going defense early. Of the 13 drafts I cited, 7 have the Jaguars taking a defensive end.

Of the defensive ends available, I would say Watt, Kerrigan, and Clayborn are the most likely the Jaguars would take. Anyone who watched the Rose Bowl saw how disruptive Watt can be. Kerrigan has drawn some comparisons to Aaron Kampman, but there is plenty of concern if he is big enough to be a 4-3 DE. Clayborn is something of a tweener, and some saying he can be a 4-3 DE.

Brandon Harris is the lone corner representative, but 4 other mocks I planned to include had the Jaguars taking UF corner Janoris Jenkins (Jenkins said last night he would stay for his senior season at UF.)

The only picks I really can’t understand are Jonathan Baldwin and Marcell Dareus. Baldwin is more of a Gene Smith guy than a Michael Crabtree, but I still can’t see the Jaguars taking a wide receiver in the first round. As for Dareus, he is a real talent, but the Jaguars already have a lot of good young talent at the defensive tackle spot.
