Is this the “Same Ole Sorry Jaguars”

As Maurice Jones-Drew fumbled the 4th down pitch, and the Colts promptly scored to make it 21-10, when David Garrard threw a nearly back breaking interception, and then finally when Josh Scobee’s kick was returned for a touchdown, I kept hearing an ever increasingly loud chant.
“Same ole sorry @$$ Jaguars!”
In the heat of the moment, can you honestly blame them? It seemed like destiny was finally on the Jaguars side. They had won 5 of their 6 games on sheer grit. The Colts were imploding. It seemed as though all of those years of frustration were finally going to be released.
Instead, we all know what happened by now.
It appears that for the 4th time in 7 years, the Jaguars will enter December, controlling their own destiny, and still find a way to be sitting at home when the playoffs start. Whether you’re a player or a fan, it gets old, tiring, and frustrating.
However, is this team the same as those other three?
2006 still has to set the gold standard for late season collapses. The 2006 Jaguars deserve to be filed as one of the most criminally underachieving teams in NFL history.
2009 was a team that simply ran out of gas. Besides the Colts game, it was clear that the severe lack of seasoned talent was taking it’s tole on the team. Honestly, to get to 7 wins in 2009 was a minor miracle in itself when you think about that roster for a moment.
2004 on the other hand has a similar feel. A win and your in late season game that the Jaguars simply didn’t seem like they didn’t get up for.
Barring something drastic occurring, I believe Del Rio has done enough to buy himself one more year in Jacksonville. Gene Smith’s first draft class will go from being a “Young nucleus” to “The nucleus” of players on this team. If the Jaguars can not punch through then changed will be on the horizon for the Jaguars.
